The implications of image resolution
An image on the screen is made up of lots of dots of light called pixels. The resolution of an image is given as two numbers like this: 640 x 480, where 640 is the number of pixel columns in the width of the image and 480 is the number of pixel rows in the height of the image.
2
By multiplying these two numbers you obtain the total number of pixels in the image. In this example, 640 x 480 = 307 200 pixels. As we normally use mega-pixels we divide this number by one million to give 0.3 M pixels
Column = 640
Rows = 480
