​Update your resume

​1. Open your resume we created at the beginning of the year.

​2. Check your basic information and update anything that has changed.

​3. Check your work experience. Add any new jobs you have obtained.

​4. Check your skills. Add any new things you have learned.

​5. Check your achievements. Add any new awards you have earned.

​Peer Check

​We will take 10 minutes with a partner to check our resume.

​Use this time to check for errors

(spelling errors are a big red flag to employers)

​Give suggestions on how to improve the resume and dress it up.

  • ​Change fonts

  • ​Add page breaks

  • ​Make sure it is easy to read

​Jobs versus Careers

​Jobs: What you have when you are first starting out. Often these are minimum wage and have very few benefits. Everyone starts out having jobs.

​Careers: These are what you actually want to spend the rest of your life doing. This is the employment you want to better yourself in and why you go to school or get training. This employment has benefits and offers some form of retirement plan.

​The Interview

​Everyone knows to get a job you go thru a job interview.

​You have practiced this in other classes.

While you have your resume, most of the time you will fill out an application and attach your resume.

​Careers will often just have you submit a resume and won't have an application sometimes.

​What questions are usually asked...

​What questions should you ask

​Spend the rest of the hour coming up with 10 questions to ask future employers.

​You can make these specific for the career field you are going into or you can ask some broad range questions.

​We will be discussing these tomorrow so be prepared to present your questions and why you feel its important to ask them.
