What is the tense of a verb???

  • ​tells when something is happening

  • ​simple forms are past, present and future

Present Tense . . .

  • ​shows action that happens now

  • most singular verbs end with -s or -es

  • ​most plural verbs DO NOT end in -s or -es

Present Tense . . .

  • ​Ken walks to school everyday.

  • ​The twins wait for their friends.

  • ​She talks too much.

  • ​Dylan and Luis throw the ball.

Past Tense . . .

  • ​shows action that has already happened.

  • ​most verbs end in -ed

  • ​verbs ending in e, drop the e before adding -ed (liked, loved)

  • ​verbs ending in a consonant and y, change the y to i and add -ed (hurried, carried)

  • ​one-syllable verbs that end in one vowel followed by a consonant, double the consonant and add -ed (stopped, napped)
