You must then decide if each statement is true or false.

My favourite celebrity? Easy: he’s the greatest guy in the world! David Beckham i san amazing footballer – he’s played in Spain, Italy and the USA. Then he does all that other cool stuff, like TV advertisements and modeling designer clothes. And he has a beautiful pop star wife, too… What a guy!

Madonna has to be the most famous singer ever, right? Just think, her fist song came out more than thirty years ago and she’s just as popular today. I love her music. I’m no good at singing, but you can’t get me off the dance flor when one of her songs comes on…

23

If you ask me, Emma Watson sets a really good example for young people. She’s a great actress and she’ll be famous forever because of the Harry Potter films. What I like about her most is the fact that she wants to study while she’s working. Being famous isn’t the only way to do well in life!

24

Imagine being married to the future king of England! Kate Middleton is so pretty and she seems like a nice person, too. Some princesses are really boring, but she’s young and fashionable and she looks like she knows how to have fun. I’d love to meet her one day…

25

I’m sure I’m not the only person to say that Barack Obama is my hero. It was a big moment in history when he became president of the United States. I don’t know much about politics, but I like the idea of working for a political party and maybe even being president or prime minister one day

You will read five short texts about students talking about being famous.

You must then decide if each statement is true or false.

32

Sure, most people dream of being famous, but I think it would be really stressful. You have no private life, everyone wants to know what you’re doing all the time and photographers follow you everywhere. It would be terrible! Every little thing you do ends up on the pages of the newspapers, especially the bad stuff. You make one mistake and the whole world knows about it. I can’t imagine people talking about my clothes, my hair, my love life…No thanks!

33

One really great thing that celebrities can do is to bring the public’s attention to important things that are happening in the world. A lot of them support a particular charity or organisation and use the fact that they’re famous to get more people to help. They can have an effect on a lot of people, not only their fans, and bring them together to do something good. It’s good to show you care about something other than being famous!

34

The best thing about being famous is definitely all the money you’d have. The more the better, if you ask me. Just think how cool it would be to be rich you wouldn’t have any problems! You can do anything you want, live in a big house, drive a fast car, travel the world. Of course, the price doesn’t matter, with a lot of cash you never have to worry about anything. I know I’d love it!

35

Yeah, I want to be a rock star! My life would be the best, people coming to see me in concert, VIP parties, meeting other celebrities. I’d get to wear cool clothes for free and I’d be invited to lots of special events, too. Everyone would love me, kids would want to be like me, and my face would be on the cover of magazines around the world. I can almost hear the fans shouting my name as they wait outside my hotel room…

36

Being famous may have a lot of advantages, but I always imagine that it must be pretty lonely. Think about it, everyone wants to be your friend, but how many of them only want to know you because you’re famous? Most celebrities travel a lot and have very busy lifestyles, so they don’t have much time to see their family and real friends. It makes you think about what’s important in life I’d rather be normal any day!

37
