The Land We Call Arkansas

Arkansas is known as the Natural State.​

During the ice ages that followed Pangea breaking up, glaciers covered much of North America.

The land we know as Arkansas started to show up when the glaciers melted

The very dangerous fault line that runs through Arkansas is known as the New Madrid fault line

Geography is the study of places and their unique characteristics

Arkansas is bordered by 6 states: Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri, and Tennessee

Latitude lines run horizontal and longitude lines run vertical

Rivers are some of Arkansas' great natural resources

The two largest rivers in the state are the Arkansas and the Mississippi

The Mississippi River is the 4th longest river in the world.

The Mississippi River accounts for more drainage and flow than all the rivers of Europe combined.

Floodplains work like reservoirs for overflowed rivers, usually leaving behind incredibly rich soil.

In addition to rivers, lakes are another important waterway for our state.

Aquifers are formed when freshwater becomes trapped between two layers of sediment.
