-When the United States was established it was one of the first countries in the world that allowed its citizens to vote for their leaders. Yet the right to vote was still very restricted. The only people that were allowed to vote were white men who owned land. This meant that only wealthy landowners were the ones making decision in America.
-After the election of Andrew Jackson, the United States expanded SUFFRAGE, or the right to vote, to all white men. No longer were white men required to own land to vote. This greatly expanded the number of voters in elections. More people were now allowed to vote in elections.
