About Matangini Hazra

Matangini Hazra (19 October 1870 – 29 September 1942) was an Indian revolutionary who participated in the Indian independence movement until she was shot dead by the British Indian police in front of the Tamluk Police Station (of erstwhile Midnapore District) on 29 September 1942. She was affectionately known as Gandhi buri, Bengali for old lady Gandhi. Matangini Hazra was a part of Quit India Movement and Non- CooperationMovement. She was shot thrice in one of the processions but kept moving aheadwith the Indian Flag in hand. She kept shouting"Vande Mataram."​

About Bhikaji Cama

People may have heard her name on roads and buildings, but very few know who she was and what she did for India.​

Cama was not only a part of India's independence movement but also an iconoclast who stood for gender equality during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.​

She donated most of her personal belongings to an orphanage for girls. She also unfurled the Indian flag at the International Socialist Conference at Stuttgart in Germany, 1907.​​
