Signifian un, una pero son dos debido a que (a) se ocupa con palabras que comienzan con consonantes y (h) que no es muda, que suena como j.

El (an) se usa con palabras que inician con vocal o con sonido de vocal como es el caso de la (h muda) hour(auor) inicia con sonido de vocal no de j.( h no muda). ​

​Son llamados artículos indefinidos por que se ocupan cuando el tema no esta definido, es la primera vez que se menciona dentro de la conversación.
