Sentence Additions

Additions are clauses or short sentences that follow a statement.

Additions express similarity to or contrast with the information in the statement.

(Amy likes bubble tea. Boy likes bubble tea.)

How can we combine these two?

  • Amy likes bubble tea, and so does Boy.

(Amy finished school. Boy didn’t finish.)

  • Amy finished school, but Boy didn’t.

Use so and too to express similarity using a clause. So and too follow affirmative statements.

  • Faii is in class 15, and so is I-oon.

  • Faii is in class 15, and I-oon is too.

  • She likes cake, and so do I.

  • She likes cake, and I do too.

Use neither or not either to express similarity using a sentence. Neither and not either follow a negative statement.

  • Seang isn’t married. Neither is Peung.

  • Seang isn’t married. Peung isn’t either.

  • I don’t like sushi. Neither does she.

  • I don’t like sushi. She doesn’t either.

  • Jean has gone to Korea, and so has Tenn.
