The passive

You should have seen the explainer video. This quiz is to put into practice what we have just learned about.

The passive

There are different forms of the passive, and we can use different tenses in using the passive, but here we are just going to focus on the standard 'werden' passive.

Der Geburtstag wurde gefeiert (the birthday was celebrated)

To form the passive you need wurde (was) or wurden (were) and the past participle.

The past participle is the form of the verb that often starts with 'ge'.​

​Look how a passive sentence changes compared to an active sentence.

In an active sentence we have a subject. In a passive the subject is usually omitted, and we focus on the action instead.​
