​A small merchant ship that was sent on a mission to Tahiti to collect breadfruit saplings.

This was a LONG trip to get trees.​

The fruit from this tree tastes like bread and can feed lots of people.​

The mission was to take baby trees (saplings) to Jamaica and plant them there.​

Captain of the ship, William Bligh, was motivated to get the job done fast to earn more money. The decision was made to go the shorter more dangerous route by Cape Horn.

They did not succeed.​

This cost them months.​

The crew spent months in Tahiti as they waited for the breadfruit to be loaded on the ship.

Most of the men adopted Tahitian cultures.​

Some got married, some were adopted into Tahitian families.​

Tahiti​

Returning to the ocean with Bligh as their captain was too much for many of the sailors to bear. Talk of a mutiny began​

Bligh was too strict for their liking.​ He whipped the men too often.

Time to leave Tahiti​

Shortly after leaving Tahiti, the men mutinied. Bligh was set adrift on a lifeboat with a few of his supporters.

The mutineers chose Christian as their new captain.

Mutiny!​
