Quotation analysis

Chapter 1-8

13

"It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune, must be in want of a wife."

Analysis

This quote was written by the writer from the very beginning of the story. This was to introduce Mr. Binley to the story. This introduction of him showed how the society in the story gave prides and values to rich people and those people, especially men were in wanted for the marriage.

This might be true for the society now too, I think, as people always consider how the man can help in a marriage. Men must be in a term that is able to build up their family both financial and emotional aspects.

They are all silly and ignorant like other girls; but Lizzy has something more of quickness than her sisters.

16

‘If I can but see one of my daughters happily settled at Netherfield,’ said Mrs. Bennet to her husband, ‘and all the others equally well married, I shall have nothing to wish for.’

17

He looked for a moment at Elizabeth, till catching her eye, he withdrew his own and coldly said, ‘She is tolerable; but not handsome enough to tempt me.’

18

Open Ended

Happiness in marriage is entirely a matter of chance. If the dispositions of the parties are ever so well known to each other, or ever so similar beforehand, it does not advance their felicity in the least.

19

Open Ended

That she should have walked three miles so early in the day, in such dirty weather, and by herself, was almost incredible to Mrs. Hurst and Miss Bingley.
