By Jennifer Goodwin

2

Open Ended

When Stuart says that Skeeter is "different," Skeeter realizes he isn't talking about her appearance. Give two examples that show how Skeeter is "different" than the other women.

3

Skeeter

Her goal in college was to become a writer, not a housewife. She also speaks her mind.

Some text here about the topic of discussion

4

Open Ended

Skeeter finds a word written in a copy of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave, but it wasn't so much the word itself that bothered her. Explain how this incident shows the depth of racism in the South.

5

The word "****** book" is written in. It wasn't the word, but it looks like a child wrote it. That's what bothered her. The depth of racism starts when children are small and it is bred into them. (nobody is born racist.)

6

Open Ended

Skeeter finds a bit of irony in one of the Jim Crow laws. Explain the law and the irony of it.

7

The separate building for blind people of a different race is ironic, because the blind can't even see skin color, so why should it matter? It's law 47.

8

Open Ended

Summarize the vague warning that Hilly gives Skeeter about Skeeter's interest in colored rights.

9
