A direct object is the person or object who receives the action of the verb.

​Ex: I see Brianna.

Ex. They completed the homework. ​

Ex. We love ​mashed potatoes.

Direct objects typically answer the question "who?" or "what?"

​Ex: I see Brianna.

Who do I see? Brianna.​

​

Ex. They completed the homework. ​

What did they complete? The homework.​

​

Ex. We love ​mashed potatoes.

What do we love? Mashed potatoes.
