Y replaces prepositions of location [chez (at) en (to) dans (to) à(to)]
Ex: nous allons chez le medecin (prepositional phrase)
When we previously mention a location, we can often translate “there” instead (both in eng and fr)
Instead, nous Y allons
Ex: es-tu allée à la plage? (or any location), oui j’y suis allée, j’y ai visité
Ex; tu vas à la piscine ? Oui j’y vais !

And the meaning of “y” can change depending on what preposition you’re replacing. You can also replace the preposition à + something such as À penser (to think about), s’interésser à (to be interested in) to change the meaning to “about it” you’d say :
Ex: tu penses à ton avenir ? oui j’y pense (thinking about it), il s’y intéresse
Ex: à l’examen? J’y pense toujours

En replaces partitives and indefinite articles such as du, de, de la, du l’, or des
it can be translated to (SOME, some of them, ANY or IT). Always use a number or expresses quantity to say that someone has an amount of "some" or "any" of something when accompanied by “beaucoup” or “tous”.
Ex: combien de frères a-t-il? Il en a un (deux, trois, etc) he has one of them

Placement : most commonly in between the subject (noun/person) and the verb,
Comes before (precedes) the conjugated verb or only before the conjugated verb
en negatif : I place in BETWEEN the negative and conjugated verb (precedes verb, follows negative) example: je n'y vais pas
