*It is believed that the Lucayans travelled through the Orinoco Valley in South America, potentially bringing in settlers with them on their travels.
The "Bahamas" comes from the Spanish words "baja" (shallow) and "mar" (sea)
The Bahamas sits in the Atlantic Ocean off the eastern coast of Florida and extends over 7000 miles almost parallel to Cuba.
The Bahamas is an archipelago that consists of 700 islands and cays, 2,400 reefs and rock formations, and 14 island groupings.
