*It is believed that the Lucayans travelled through the Orinoco Valley in South America, potentially bringing in settlers with them on their travels. ​

• The "Bahamas" comes from the Spanish words "baja" (shallow) and "mar" (sea)

• The Bahamas sits in the Atlantic Ocean off the eastern coast of Florida and extends over 7000 miles almost parallel to Cuba.

• The Bahamas is an archipelago that consists of 700 islands and cays, 2,400 reefs and rock formations, and 14 island groupings.
