S2 Thematic Anthology Unit 22: Lesson 2
By MISS FRONIA CHENG

Story Time: Part 1
Miss Cheng reads.
As I am reading, you need to highlight all the characters you can see.
(Just highlight every character once e.g. if Harry Potter appears 10 times, you don't need to highlight 10 times).

Nearly ten years had passed since the Dursleys had woken up to find their nephew on the front step, but Privet Drive had hardly changed at all. The sun rose on the same tidy front gardens and lit up the brass number four on the Dursleys' front door; it crept into their living room, which was almost exactly the same as it had been on the night when Mr. Dursley had seen that fateful news report about the owls.
What is the Dursleys' address?

Only the photographs on the mantelpiece really showed how much time had passed. Ten years ago, there had been lots of pictures of what looked like a large pink beach ball wearing different-colored bonnets -- but Dudley Dursley was no longer a baby, and now the photographs showed a large blond boy riding his first bicycle, on a carousel at the fair, playing a computer game with his father, being hugged and kissed by his mother. The room held no sign at all that another boy lived in the house, too.

Story Time: Part 2
Dubbing over Harry Potter
Dubbing usually happens when we want to 'translate' a film into a different language.
A voice actor speaks the lines at the same time as the character.
For Story Time, you are going to 'dub over' Harry Potter.
11
How it will work
I have put you into groups of 4.
12
How it will work
Every three / four lessons, I will choose one clip from the Harry Potter movie and give you the script.
In your groups, decide which person is going to play which character.
You need to practice reading your characters’ lines in your own time. You can watch the movie clip in order to learn how to say the words.
I will also give you some lesson time to practice.
13
How it will work
When dubbing, you need to be very familiar with the lines.
You need to say them at the same time and with the same emotion as the character.
14
How it will work
Later on, each group will choose their favourite scene out of the ones we have practiced.
We will record your voice as you dub over the lines.
Then, Hani will edit this together with the scenes in the video.
In one lesson, we will watch 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone', voice acted by all of you!

People are beginning to realize the dangers of smartphone addiction and apps have been developed to monitor our mobile usage. However, to break free of the ‘always on’ culture, we ought to remember that mobile devices are there to help facilitate our daily lives, not to take over all of our time. We must learn to let go of our smartphones sometimes and enjoy more face-to-face time with our family and friends.
