A gerund is a form of a verb that ends in -ing, and used as a noun.

As you may know, a verb is a word that refers to actions or states of being, and a noun is a word that we use to refer to people, places, things, and ideas.

A gerund is like a blend of verbs and nouns. It looks like a verb, but it acts like a noun.

Gerunds may be used as:

  1. ​A SUBJECT OF A SENTENCE.

​ For example, Walking is good for your health.

  1. ​AS AN OBJECT OF A SENTENCE.

    For example, I enjoy drawing.

  2. AFTER PREPOSITIONS (excluding but)

For example, I am wary of going alone.

My mom is scared of flying.

    For example, Jim always forgets to eat.

  2. AN ADVERB
