Remember we use past continuous to describe an action that was happening when another action interrupted.

For example​: I was studying for my test when the lights went out.

Remember that the action that was happening first will use the past continuous and the action that interrupts. It will use simple past

Example: while i was driving back home i almost ran over a dog.
