When you are learning a new language, is important to learn the alphabet because:

The letter name is what we use to 'call' it, such as when we are spelling out a word. For example the name of the letter 'a' is 'ay'. On the other hand, the sound of a letter is the sound we make when we read them in a word.

​Spanish has only five vowel sounds, while English has more than 14. Spanish vowels are quicker and shorter than those in English.

There are no long or short vowels, just one sound for each vowel. This should make the pronunciation easier, but it can be hard to break habits from English.
