CELL TRANSPORT NOTES
PART 1: MEMBRANE STRUCTURE
3
Cell membranes are made of fats called phospholipid
Every phospholipid has 2 parts- a head and a tail
Part 1: Membrane Structure
4
The head ALWAYS touches the water and the tail ALWAYS avoids water.
The cell membrane is always moving. This movement is called FLUIDITY.
5
Match
Cell Membrane Structure:
Match the following
Phospholipids
Head and tail
Head
Tail
Fluidity
Cell membranes are made of
2 parts of phospholipid
Touches water
Doesn't touch water
Always moving

6
Draw
Draw a phospholipid below
7
CELL TRANSPORT:
The cell membrane can move materials in and out of the cell
Selective permeability= choosing what comes in and out
The cell has 2 types of transport: Passive and Active
8
Match
Cell Transport:
Match the following
Selective permeability
Passive transport
Active transport
Choosing what comes in and out
No energy used to move molecules
Uses energy to move molecules
Picture of active transport
Picture of passive transport
Choosing what comes in and out
No energy used to move molecules

Picture of passive transport
9
PASSIVE TRANSPORT
No energy is used
Molecules move from high concentration to low concentration until equal
10
ACTIVE TRANSPORT
Energy is used
Molecules move from LOW concentration to HIGH concentration; uneven molecules on each side
11
12
