Context

Naphatali and Zebulun in the North had allowed the Canaanites to dwell among them. This also brought about ​syncretism as the tribes were serving other gods.

To bring his people back to him the LORD ​uses the Canaanites to discipline His people.

Would God's people turn to HIM?

Oppression of Israel by Jabin, king of Canaan (4: 1 - 3)

And the LORD ysold them into the hand of zJabin king of Canaan, who reigned in zHazor.

The technology of the King of Canaan was vastly superior to that of Israel at the time, as they allude to their 900 chariots of iron.

And with it they oppressed the people cruelly for twenty years. ​

She went and summoned Barak a man of the tribe of Naphtali.

Yet Barak wavered.... ​

The lack of trust in the LORD giving them the victory over Sisera and Jabin, lead to the LORD rebuking him. Giving the victory in the end to a women! ​

​The Lord's power is portrayed throughout the rest of this book. ​

The surprise attack by Barak! (verse 14)

The LORD goes ahead in the situation, he threw the entire army of Sisera into confusion. ​

Tent of Jael - In Ancient Near Eastern custom it was prohibited that any man other than a woman's husband or father from entering her tent,

For Sisera I am sure he was thinking just how ideal this was.

Verse 21 - The book of Judges emphasises that it was a woman who killed Sisera! ​
