Multiplying Fractions
Here is where we will learn about how to properly solve multiplying fractions problems
2
Let's review what PEMDAS is
P - Parentheses
E - Exponent
M - Multiplication
D - Division
A - Addition
S - Subtraction
Each letter of PEMDAS actually stands for something...it's known as an acronym
We will be seeing a lot of pemdas in this lesson. We will be focusing on multiplying, but we will see some PEMDAS problems to tie in our previous chapters.
3
Multiple Choice
To review what we know about PEMDAS:
What operation should I perform first in this equation?
2 + 3 • 23
Addition
Multiplication
Exponent
All of the above

The first step in multiplying fractions is to put what you're going to be multiplying in the same spot
For example: numerators should be with numerators and denominators should be with denominators
Multiplying Fractions
The second step is to simplify any numbers that you can...but be careful and mindful that you CANNOT simplify any numbers that are on the same line!
5
Multiple Choice
When simplifying fractions the numbers should stay as _____ & numerator and denominator & _____
Numerator and Numerator
Denominator and Numerator
Denominator and Numerator
Numerator and Denominator

Poll
What do you feel is the hardest part so far with multiplying fractions?
Actually multiplying them
Simplifying the numerator and denominator when necessary
Everything about multuplying
I'm okay with multiplying fractions
8
A mixed number is a whole number with a proper fraction.
What is a mixed number?
Let's add in some mixed numbers
How do we multiply mixed numbers?
9
You can only simplify the fractions if they make a fraction
For example, one number must come from the numerator and one must come from the denominator
Things to remember...
Make sure to make mixed numbers into improper fractions before multiplying
Multiply the denominator by the whole number. After you've multiplied those two, add the numerator
You CANNOT multiply mixed numbers like we can add them
You MUST turn the mixed number into a fraction, get an improper fraction answer, then turn it back into a
mixed number
