What is simple past?

Definition

The simple past is a verb tense that is used to talk about events or activities that happened in some point in the past and this action is already finished.

Example:

Picasso died ​in 1973

My father worked in California last year.​

To form affirmative sentences in simple past we need to use the following structure:

Subject + verb in simple past​ + complement

Example:

I went to a party yesterday​.

I ate rice last night​.
