Adjectives are words that describe people, places and things. In Spanish descriptive adjectives are used with verb SER to point out characteristics such as nationality, size, color, shape, personality and appearance.

5

In English, the forms of descriptive adjectives do not change to reflect a gender (masculine/feminine) and number (singular/plural) of the noun or pronoun they describe, for example:

Juan is nice

Mary is nice

They are nice

Notice that the description NICE never changes in English.

6

In Spanish, the forms of descriptive adjectives agree in gender and or number with the nouns or pronouns they describe, in other words descriptive adjectives must match the gender (male/female) and the number (singular/plural) of what is being described.

Juan es simpático

Elena es simpática

Ellos son simpáticos

María y Elena son simpáticas

Adjectives that end in –o turn to -a when it's feminine and the plural is formed by adding the S to the singular form.

Adjectives that end in letter E or a Consonant, have the same masculine and feminine forms. This means that both male and female share the same endings, both in singular and plural forms.

media

The letter E is shared by both male and female, they become plural by just adding S.

When the ending is with a consonant, it remains the same for singular on both genders and it becomes plural by adding ES at the end.
