Tips and Tricks

Intervention and enrichment doesn't have to be difficult. You're probably already doing it!

My strategy is to always have an idea for extension/enrichment and for intervention ready to go.

  • Creates equity (no one has MORE work to do)

  • Good opportunity for extra credit if student completes both

  • Provides extra practice for both students who need intervention and those who need enrichment

19

Tips and Tricks

Grading:

  • You only need to grade the whole class assignment (and students don't need to know that)

  • You can use the enrichment/intervention assignment as a completion grade in your 0% Gradebook category. This provides useful data when a student doesn't understand why they are failing.

Tips and Tricks

FAQ

  • What if students complain about being in one group or the other?

    • Not all students will be in the same group every time. Students can also complete both activities for extra credit.

  • What if they can't complete the enrichment project in the 20 minutes?

    • Can be worked on at the end of class for "fast finishers"

    • Can be worked on only during the enrichment period and due at the end of the quarter

    • Does not have to be a long-term project - it just needs to show that students can use and apply the knowledge they have obtained.
