And Béowulf dove into the surging lake
below for half a long day to the cave of the
mother of Grendel, who snatched at the
warrior with her loathsome claws. Beowulf
spied among her cache of arms a firm
edged victory-tool, a magic-forged icicle of
blood. He seized the hilt and struck through
her neck. The ogre-woman fell dead.
Beowulf rejoiced.
Those above with Hrothgar saw blood rise
on the lake and lost hope for Béowulf.
Then that lake began to melt all away.
Straightaway, Béowulf dove up through
water. He came then to the land, and they
thanked God to see their friend

Y Béowulf se zambulló en el lago emergente de
abajo. Durante medio día a la cueva de la
