Most stories have a beginning a middle and an end....
Some stories may begin in the middle of the action.
This type of opening is called
in medias res. These openings are exciting and they engage the reader
immediately.
If "The Treasure of Lemon Brown" had started with Greg and Lemon hiding from the robbers, the opening would have been in medias res.
