○ The AR verbs you have used until now are called

REGULAR VERBS because they follow a regular
pattern.

○ Verbs that do not follow a regular pattern are

considered IRREGULAR VERBS.

○ ESTAR is an irregular verb because the yo form

doesn't follow the regular AR verb pattern.

○ The forms está, estás, están also require accent

marks.

ESTAR is the PLACE to be

○ POSITION = La puerta está abierta
○ LOCATION = Nosotros estamos en Arizona
○ ACTION = Los chicos están hablando (this is

present progressive!)

○ CONDITION = La comida está fria
○ EMOTION = Ustedes están tristes
