​Consonants v. Vowels

​Words are made up of vowels and consonants.

​Vowel sounds can be short or long. Read through all of the words below.

​Vowel Teams

​In many words, you see two vowels together.

​

​Examples:

​1. aim

​2. sleep

​

​We call these "vowel" teams or "vv" teams.

​VV Teams

​1. ai

​2. ee

​3. oa

​4. ue

​5. ay

​6. ea

​VV Team Rule

​The first vowel is long (meaning it says its name).

​

​The second vowel is silent (meaning you don't hear it).

​

​Example:

​Here are some VV Teams to read. As you read, ask yourself what is the vowel team? What letter do you say out loud?
