In children...

They can suffer from a wide range of hyperthemia causes, including a febrile seizure.

What is a febrile seizure?

It is when the body temperature rises rapidly over a short period of time. The rapid spike in temperature doesn't have to be "high" in order for a febrile seizure to happen. It's mostly about the speed of the rise, rather than the number you see. Most times, if a child has a febrile seizure, there is an infection*. However, infants can also suffer from a heat stroke.

*We will discuss more about this in the chapter on the Immune System.

Which form of hyperthermia is most deadly, febrile seizure or heat stroke?
