Simple Sentences
Simple sentences are also INDEPENDENT clauses.
All sentences have a SUBJECT and a PREDICATE.
They can stand on their own.

Compound Sentences
Compound sentences have TWO independent clauses joined by a comma and FANBOYS (for and nor but or yet so) OR a semi-colon ;
You cannot just SLAP two sentences together. That is known as a run-on.
The independent clauses you connect must make sense when you put them together.

Complex sentences have a dependent clause and an independent clause
It uses SUBORDINATING conjunctions.
We call SUBORDINATING conjunctions AAAWWUBBIS
If the AAAWWUBBIS comes first, it needs a comma.
