Genitive ('s/ ' / of)

De genitive is de vorm die bezit aanduidt of aangeeft bij wie iets of wat hoort.

Bij personen (en namen):
Enkelvoud: 's (my dad's brother)
Meervoud met s: de ' achter de s (my parents' anniversary)

De auto van John = John's car

De ouders van Marlene = Marlene's parents

De boeken van Charles Dickens = Charles Dickens's books

De kamer van de jongen = the boy's room

Het speelgoed van de jongens = the boys' toys
Het huis van de buren = the neighbours' house
