  • Let (1, -2) = (x₁, y₁)

    and (3, -6) = (x₂, y₂)

  • Then x₁ = 1, y₁ = -2, x₂ = 3, and y₂ = -6.

  • Slope, m = (y₂ - y₁) / (x₂ - x₁)

  • = (-6 - (-2)) / (3 - 1)
    = (-6 + 2) / (3 - 1)
    = (-4) / 2
    = -2
