Sudan's wars have had an especially hard impact on the nation's children. Children are often forced to join the army or rebel forces. Children also suffer from malnutrition as they cannot get enough food. In some places, the average height of boys and girls has fallen by several inches because of malnutrition. In places, children have to take on 'adult' jobs including caring for animals, growing crops, and gathering water. This denies many the chance to go to schools. Currently only one in five children in Darfur and South Sudan are taking regular classes.
