VERBE FRANCAIS (FRENCH VERB)

• A verb is a word that expresses an action or a state of being : they express an action performed by the subject of the sentence (a noun or a pronoun). In addition to physical actions, verbs can also describe processes, concepts, states and thoughts.

• Based on these, we can say that there are two type of verbs!

  • Action verb (Verbe d’action)

  • Stative verb (Verbe d’état)

Être (to be) and Avoir(to have)

• We can classify French verbs by their endings to make it easier to learn their conjugations.

​ verbs end in -er Examples: manger, aimer, commencer, parler, penser, oublier	​ verbs end in -ir​ Examples: finir, réussir, choisir	​ verbs are irregular verbs These verbs can also be categorised by their endings.

• ​Conjugation is the change that takes place in a verb to express tense, mood, person and so on. In French, verbs change as they are used, most notably with different people (you, I, we) and different time ( present, future, past ). Conjugating verbs essentially means altering them into different forms to provide context.

• The conjugation also allow to specify who does the action of the verb.
