Impact on First Nations

Before the arrival of the Loyalist- most treaties were created with First Nations for peace. After they migrated, most treaties were a way to take over land for settlement. This was largely because Loyalists were farmers in need of land. The Royal Proclamation was mainly ignored and settlers moved into "Indian Territory" without permission from First Nation groups. Most families settled in Nova Scotia for Farm land. Then as families struggled, they moved into Mi'Kmaq hunting/fish lands-- no negotiations happened in regards to these traditional Mi'Kmaq lands as their land was outside of the "Indian Territory" outlined in the Royal Proclamation
