1st Event: Married Women's Property Act Passed (1848)

Before this, women lose all control of their property after they get married, including the selling of property and the profits that it might have gotten her.

This act is later expanded on in 1860, as in that the income that married women earned are considered their own.

In 1882, the act were further expanded and extended to all property

2nd Event: Matrimonial Causes Act

The Matrimonial Causes Act was passed in 1875, which allowed wives to divorce with their husband if there was cruelty or desertion involved.

In 1973, about 100 years later, the Act was updated and states that divorces can happen when marriage is extremely broken down.

3rd Event: New Zealand Allows Women's Suffrage

On September 19th, 1893, the govenor, Lord Glasgow signed a new act into law, making New Zealand the first country in the world to allow women's suffrage.

And on 28th November, 1893, women participated in an election for the first time in New Zealand.
