World War - A war that involves many large and powerful nations.  In the history of the United States, our country has been involved in two world wars.

Allied Powers - The “allied powers” are the countries that fought together with the United States in WWI.  These countries included:  Great Britain, Italy, France, and Russia.

Axis Powers - The “axis powers” are the countries that the United States fought against in WWI.  These countries included:  German, Austria, Hungary, Turkey

​World War I happened because of an increase in military power, disagreement over colonies, borders, and alliances.

However it ultimately started as a war between Austria-Hungary and Serbia. Other countries were pulled in due to their greed or alliance.
