Microsoft Word Basics
2
Three ways to start MS Word
3
On the Windows taskbar, click the Start button, navigate to the Microsoft Office folder, and click the down arrow to expand the list, then click on the Word app icon.
Open Word by clicking in the Windows search field located next to the Windows Start button and type ‘word’ in the field then click on the Word app icon.
4
The most convenient way to start Word is to add a shortcut to your taskbar so it is easily visible and accessible. Follow the instructions on the second slide but this time right-click on the Word icon and select “pin to taskbar”. Great! You can quickly open Word whenever you need it.
5
How To Create Your First Document
6
The ‘Home’ page is the default page when you open Word. You will see the tab highlighted in the navigation pane located on the left.
7
Choose the font style that you want to use.
Choose the font size to make your text large or small.
8
You are done!
You can start typing your text!
You can practise and write about your favourite topic.
Here are some ideas: your best friend, your pet, your day, and your hobby. You can create an online diary!
9
How To Save Your Document
10
Once you have created your new document you will want to save it. “Why save it now?” you might ask. Well, it’s good practice to save it before you spend hours adding content to safeguard from an unexpected power outage and other issues.
11
At the top left corner, click the File tab then click on the save or save as option.
12
Click on the Browse folder icon and follow the directions to name and save your document in the appropriate folder. To go back to your document just click on the back arrow located at the left corner of the navigation panel.
13
To close your document click on the ‘X’ in the far right corner of the window.
14
You can now practise and save your Word document.
15
How To Reopen Your Document
16
To reopen your document, follow the instructions on the second page of this presentation. The Home page will show a list of recent documents. Click on your new document under recent. Or you can access the folder you used to save the document as shown next.
17
Click the Start button
and then choose the option with the documents.
18
You can access your Word documents by clicking the yellow folder. Don't worry, it's the same folder as the other two you see on the left.
19
You can now try to locate a specific document in your folder.
20
You have completed the lesson.
Well done!
Congratulations!
