This study is about three specific crafts of Sabtang
Batanes, The researchers to pick these three specific
crafts with the reason that these crafts are known due to
them being featured in the famous Vakul-Kanayi
festival, a festival that showcase the lifestyle of the
Ivatan

QUESTION 1

The Researchers chose this topic, because the researchers are
handicrafts students that focus mainly on traditional crafts of
Ivatan. It is interesting to learn crafts making specially in the
purpose of preserving the culture. Creating these materials
containing the necessary information might be able to provide
the new generation with knowledge about this crafts thus
preserving the culture. The highlight of this topic are the crafts
themselves, the Vakul is a headgear for women that covers upto
their back to shield them from the heat of the sun , the Kanayi
and Tadidi serves with the same purpose only it is a vest worn
by Men that covers their upper body and all three crafts are
made out of Abaka and vuyavuy.

QUESTION 1

It is truly clever how Abaca and Vuyavuy come
together to be a useful, convenient gears for the Ivatan
people. This study will help the researchers understand
and witness how these crafts are made for themselves
and distribute their knowledge of it through their
research paper, as a handicraft learner it is important
for the handicraft students to learn about these crafts
and their origin, what their purposes are, how they are
made, who can make them at the moment and any
information about these crafts.

The researchers questions are:
•What are the traditional crafts in Sabtang, Batanes?
• What are the form and variety of each type?
•What are the sources of material?
•What are the tools and materials needed for each type?
•Who are the craft makers in Sabtang?

This questions help us to start our research paper and it also serves us as our guide to finish our
paper. This questions also helped us to better understand our study and the crafts in
Sabtang, Batanes.

What are the possible
challenges /difficulties you
might encounter for every
research question?

QUESTION 3

The difficulties can be the trasportation as we have to travel to gather
information to interview the living craftsman who knows how to make
these crafts.

Effort, the researchers apply the effort they can but it is still not enough
to reach their goal .

Lack of communication with the craftsmen so when they need additional
information they have no mean communication.
