What is Geography?

• Definition from National Geographic Society: A knowledge of place names, location of cultural and physical features, distribution and patterns or languages, religions, economic activities, population and political systems.

• Prefix "Geo-" = Earth

• Suffix "-graphy" = field of study

Latitude and Longitude

What is latitude and longitude?

• A system of imaginary lines used to identify the location of all places on earth using numbers.

How do we use it?

• Originally used for cartography and maps in general, it is at the foundation of all GPS and GIS technology that people have grown accustomed to using on a daily basis.
