Every bite you eat gets its start on a farm. Farms grow your meals!

Crops such as oats, wheat, peas, peaches, and plums grow on farms. Farms with animals give us meat and eggs to eat and milk to drink.

Crops start as seeds. First, people make the land just right for seeds. They make rows in the land with big blades and drop seeds in them. These seeds grow into plants. Plants need water and sunlight to grow well.

This crop is wheat. We use wheat to make bread. Wheat is treated to get rid of weeds and pests. Pests are insects that eat and harm crops.

Other insects can help crops grow. Those insects eat pests.
