Linear Functions

Learning goal: to understand the relationship between tables, functions and graphs

​The water level in a dam is 22m and is decreasing by 0.2m each day in the summer.  What will be the water level after 14 days?

​This problem can be written as a linear function.

w = 22 - 0.2d

Let's see why this is a linear function.

​In maths, a function is a rule or instruction that helps us find answers to problems.

We can use a function machine to help us.

​We can choose an amount for one variable to find out what the other variable is:

w = 22 - 0.2d
