72. 1st Grade SRR: The Best Gift

Phil runs to the shed. “Miss Rose!” he calls, “Hope is in here, but I found seven cats! Hope has kits! Hope plus six kits is seven!”

“So that is why Hope wanted to hide,” he adds. “Now I get it!”

Phil and Miss Rose smile wide. “Hope had kits!” Phil yells. Phil sees Hope carry every kit inside and set it on the rug.

“Hope is the best mom cat!” Phil tells his mom, dad, and Miss Rose.

Time goes by. Phil and Miss Rose see the kits get big. Phil likes to help Miss Rose with Hope and her kits.

Miss Rose has a plan that she tells to Mom. Mom likes the plan.

Miss Rose gets a box. She pokes holes in it and wraps it up. She writes Phil on the box.

Phil does not know about Miss Rose’s plan. Miss Rose thinks he will like it.

Miss Rose picks up the box and goes to Phil’s home. Tap, tap, tap! Miss Rose knocks at Phil’s house.

“Hi, Miss Rose,” Phil said.

“Hi, Phil,” said Miss Rose. “I have something for you in this box.”

Phil gazes into the box. It is a cat that looks just like Hope! It is his!

He hugs Miss Rose and tells her, “I will name this cat Rose. This cat is the best gift! Now you and I will have black and white cats!”
