Rose, Luke, and Mom talk about goats with the man. “What is a little goat called?” he asks.

“I know!” Rose has the answer. “It’s a kid!”

“Like children?” asks Luke

Cheese, soap, and milk jugs sat upon a shelf.

“That is goat milk,” said the man. He gave Mom a cup of goat milk.

Mom, Rose, and Luke had sips. “It’s sweet,” said Rose.

“This is goat cheese. It is very nice on toast,” said the man.

Rose and Luke had bits of cheese.

“This is soap made with goat milk,” said Mom. “It has a nice smell. It smells just like roses, Rose!”

Coal licked Snow and gave him a nudge. Snow bumped Coal with his head.

“I wish we had goats!” said Luke.

“Goats need places to roam,” said the man. “Goats leap and run.”

“Do goats eat grass?” asked Rose.

“Yes. My goats eat grass, hay, and grain,” answered the man.

“Coal is going to eat those socks!” yelled Luke. Coal stuck out her head. She held red socks in her teeth.

“Stop, Coal! Stop!” yelled Luke. “Don’t chomp on socks!”

“This will help,” Mom tells Rose. “Quick, feed Coal these treats.”

“Socks are not snacks! Eat this snack, Coal,” said Rose.
