General Stritch Rules

  • No Outside food in Class

  • When in this classroom, you are working on Science unless it is an announced "open study" day

  • Write in full sentences

  • Math should have work shown and be done in pencil

Ms. Fancsali's Class Rules

  • Beverages that can be closed are allowed in the "Classroom" portion

    • NO BEVERAGES IN THE LAB-EVER

  • No entry to the Lab without permission

  • Any Variation of "I don't know" is not an answer

  • If you need something done, please email Ms. Fancsali

    • Ms. Fancsali has a very bad memory, so seeing the email helps her remember

Where's Your Stuff?

  • You all start the year with the PRIVILEGE to choose your seat

    • Ms. Fancsali does not like making assigned seating charts, but will if students behave in a way that loses that privilege.

      • She will be angry if she has to make a chart......

  • Some classes have mailboxes for graded work

    • Color Coded by Class

      • Purple= 8th Grade

      • Orange= Physical Science

      • Green= Chemistry

      • Yellow=Forensics

    • Always check your mailbox and verify the grades in Digital Academy

      • Ms. Fancsali will not clean out your mailbox for you.

Your Lab Manual

  • In addition to your textbook, in each unit, you will be given a chapter of your lab manual to keep in your binder

    • Guided Notes

    • Homework/Assigned Readings/Extra Credit Opportunities

    • Lab Papers

  • Due dates will be posted on Digital Academy

    • You can work ahead if you want, but assignments will not be handed back until after the due date

Lesson Participation/Guided Notes

  • During Class, we will do Notes using Wayground

    • Each Question is worth 2 points

      • 1.5 points just for giving an honest attempt

      • 0.5 points for getting the correct answer

    • Ms. Fancsali does go back and manually read your answers and email them to your guardians

    • As we go through the slides, you will fill out the guided notes in your lab manual

      • These are to be handed in on the day of the test for a grade

  • If you are not in class on the day of a lesson, you are expected to do the lesson on your own through digital Academy

Homework

  • You will receive all homework at the beginning of a unit, and Due dates will appear on Digital Academy

    • In GENERAL: 3-4 days per assignment

  • You may use your textbook to help with your homework, but try to put your thoughts in your own words

    • Google and ChatGPT are not accepted as a source and are considered cheating

  • Outside of Absences, Homework is only accepted on its due date

Labs

  • Science Is a Verb

  • Safety Rules are to be followed at all times

    • If you are behaving inappropriately, you will be asked to leave the lab and receive a zero for the assignment

  • Labs Should be completed in the given time frame, and turning in late will affect your grade

Tests

  • You will be informed of the preliminary test date for a unit on Digital Academy at the beginning of the unit

    • The date may change a little, but not substantially

  • Review the Game the Day before

Turning in Work

  • You can turn in an assignment Early if you have it completed

    • It will be graded as soon as possible, but not handed back until the due date passes

    • An early assignment earns a piece of candy from the jar

  • The turn-in tray will be labeled with the class period number

  • If you do not put your name on an assignment, it will go into the "No Name Hall of Shame" Until you claim it.

    • A 5% deduction will be applied to any assignment with no name

"Can I Still Turn this in....?"

  • Homework is not accepted late outside of absences.

    • Due the day you return

  • Guided Notes are accepted late with no grade deduction as long as it is before the end of the quarter.

    • Lesson Participation for individual Sections will be marked as incomplete until the absent student's makeup is completed.

  • Labs are accepted late with point deductions each day it is late

    • If late 1 day: -10%

    • If late 2 days: -20%

    • After 3 days: 50% Max

Absences

  • On Note Days: You will complete the absent student makeup for that day through Digital Academy

    • You can repeat as many times as you want, but only the first attempt will count for a grade

  • On Lab/Test days, you will need to make an appointment to make it up

    • Tests can be done during lunch or after school

    • Labs can only be done after school

  • If you miss a homework due date, you will turn the assignment in on the day you return and hand it to Ms. Fancsali so she can mark it as absent.

Tips for Success

  • Ask Questions when confused

    • Science is about questions

  • Write in Pencil

  • A paragraph has five sentences. Anything less than that will lose points.

    • You can never say too much

  • If you are typing something, you have no excuse for misspelling

  • If you need extra help

    • Lunchtime meetings

    • After school by Appointment
