Course details: 

Students will be introduced to culture, history, holidays, celebrations, traditions, geography, food, education, music, dance, art, literature, and language of the Spanish-speaking world in eight manageable units. 

Students will demonstrate understanding of diversity and engage in learning experiences.  Students will be required to work in pairs or small groups in order to complete vocabulary and speaking assignments.

The books always stay in the classroom, on your desks. If you are in need of a textbook, we can check one out to you and you will be responsible for returning it. All books are inventoried into the classroom. The charge is $100 if the book is lost.

The best way to stay organized is by having a binder with dividers. You will receive lots of important handouts that you do not want to misplace. Binders come in different sizes, buy the one that best fits your needs.

Bathroom Policy

You may not leave in the first 10 minutes of class or last 5 minutes of class.​

  • In this class you will need to ask to go the bathroom in Spanish.

  • Passes will be provided when exiting G Building.

  • The toilet seat is my pass. You must carry it with you and return it to it's place when you return.

  • You must sign in and out of each time. Failure to adhere may result in loss of privilege.

​Tardy policy

​Instructors are to keep track of tardy's in every class.

​Once a student is tardy 3 times, the parent will be called.

​Once the student hits 5 tardy's, a referral is written.

​If a student is tardy 10 minutes or more, they are counted absent and a referral will be written.

CHS Latework policy

Students are allowed to turn in late work for a maximum of three days beyond the original due date. 

Consequences of late work: Day 1 minus one letter grade. Day 2 minus two letter grades. Day 3 minus three letter grades. After the third day work not turned in will be recorded as a zero.

Classwork vs. Projects

  • Classwork consists of work completed in school, or finished at home if you need extra time.

  • Homework will only be accepted at the start of class. ​

  • Projects are test grades in which you are given a MINIMUM of 5 days to complete, class time, and the option to work in groups. This is never accepted late, and is required to be handed in the day it is due.

  • Pay attention to due dates.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY

Definition: Students who cheat on a test or on other class work or who turn in work that is not their own or assist others in cheating. On a first offense the student will be given NO CREDIT for the assignment and ISS. A second offense will include NO CREDIT for the assignment and extended ISS. A third offense will result in a LOSS OF CREDIT and Out of School Suspension for the course in which it occurs. Certain situations may dictate individual analysis.

According to page 19 in the student handbook, you should not have your phone at school. It is not needed. Therefore, any staff member can take it. It should be taken to the office and only released to your parent(s). This includes airpods, earbuds, smartwatches, and other electronic devices. Make sure you follow the rules the teacher has in place. Each instructor will decide how to handle cell phones. Issues? Talk to Mr. David Fredericks.

If you failed classes at the CHSFA or in 10th or 11th grade, you need to talk to your counselor. They'll let you know when night school is offered to make up credits. Don't wait on mommy and daddy. Take care of business yourself! Don't wait until the last minute.

GRADUATION PLANS

Students are expected to make reasonable progress toward graduation. Students who do not complete class requirements to receive credit or who attend so sporadically that they cannot keep up will have their graduation plans reviewed. This review may lead to placement in an alternative educational setting. Students who DO NOT meet all state requirements for graduation WILL NOT be permitted to participate in the graduation ceremony. (Page 48 student handbook).

Last year, 47 seniors did not graduate​.

  • ​The dress code will be enforced.

  • Shirts and tops must be long enough to conceal the midriff.  Chest area must be adequately covered.

  • Pants must fit at the student's waist; they must be large enough to be pulled up to the waist and must not sag below the waist. No undergarments may be exposed.
