Use Pen to darken in “STEPS”
These “steps”
mark the
Metalloids.
Elements that
TOUCH the
steps are
metalloids.
EXCEPTION is
Aluminum
3
Color Hydrogen - Yellow
Hydrogen is
NOT an alkali
metal but gets
put in Group 1
because it has
1 valence
electron.
4
Fill in the Notes below under METALS
●Left side of table.
●Shiny: Metals are usually shiny and bright. They look
like polished silver or gold.
●Conductors: Metals can moveheat and electricity really
well. That's why we use them for making wires and
cooking pots.
●Solid: Most metals are solid when we touch them,
except for one, which is mercury, and it's a liquid.
●Bendable: Metals can be hammered into thin sheets
and stretched into wires without breaking.
EXCEPTION: Hydrogen
5
Fill in the Notes below under METALLOIDS
●Touch steps (except Aluminum)
●In the Middle: Metalloids are kind of in the
middle between metals and nonmetals. They
might be shiny or not so shiny, and they can
conduct a little electricity.
●Useful in Electronics: Metalloids like silicon
are essential for making computers and
gadgets because of their special properties.
6
Fill in the Notes below under NONMETALS
●Right of the “steps”
●Not Shiny: Nonmetals don't look shiny; they are dull.
●Not Great at Conducting: Unlike metals, nonmetals aren't good at
carrying heat and electricity. They're not used for making wires.
●Different Forms: Nonmetals can be found in different forms at room
temperature. Some are gases, some
are solids, and some are in-between.
●Break Easily: Nonmetals are often
brittle, which means they break
easily when we try to bend them.
7
Color the Alkali Metals - Blue
●
These metals are
super reactive and
can even catch fire
when they touch
water. They are
found in the first
column of the
periodic table.
8
Color the Alkaline Earth Metals - Light Blue
● These metals are
also reactive but
not as much as
alkali metals. They
are in the second
column of the table.
9
Fill in the Blank
10
Color the Transition Metals - Light Brown
● Groups 3-12
● These metals are strong
and shiny. They are used
in things like jewelry and
cars. They are found in
the middlesection of the
table.
11
Group 13 - Color Purple
12
Group 14 - Color Red
13
Group 15 - Color Dark Brown
14
Group 16 - Color Light Green
15
Color the Halogens - Green
●
Group 17
●
These elements are
very reactive
nonmetals. They are
often found in salt and
can be harmful to
humans if ingested in
large amounts. They are
in the second-to-last
column.
16
Color the Noble Gases - Orange
● Group 18
● These gases are very
stable and don't react much
with other elements. They
are used in things like
balloons and neon signs.
They are in the lastcolumn
of the table
