Individualizing Your Clothing

​illusion- influence or lead the eye to see something that doesn't actually exist.

• Short people appear taller

• Taller people appear shorter

• Make yourself look slimmer or heavier

​Elements of Design

You can use the elements of design

• Line- guides eye movement up and down

• color- the best colors that flatter the color of hair, skin, and eyes

• Texture- characteristic that you can see or feel in a fabric

• shape- shape is created when lines are combined

• Pattern- arrangement of lines, shapes, and clors

Run lengthwise. these lines can make the body seem taller than it is.

​Vertical Lines

Run from side to side. These lines can lead the eyes across the body, making it broader.

​

​Horizontal Lines

Have an elongating effect, which can make the body appear taller and slimmer.

​

​Tubular Shapes

Can draw attention and give illusion of increased size.

Planning a New Purchases

​Planning helps you make choices that will improve your wardrobe. Keep the following tips in mind:

• Needs and Wants-Which items do you really need? which do you want but could live without?

• Budget-How much money do I have to spend on clothes

• Versatility-to stretch your wardrobe, looking for multi-purpose clothing. For example a sweater could be both casual and dressy

Clothing inventory is organizing a list of your clothing. When taking your clothing inventory, sort your clothing into the following groups:
1. Clothing you like and wear regularly
2. Clothing you don't want
3. Clothing you're undecided about

Identifying Quality in Clothing

Tips for determining quality in garments:

Be sure buttons are sewn on tight

Check the construction of the garment on
the inside

Check the seams; look for undone
threads, tears or loose seams

Determine if fabric is wrinkle-resistant

tight weave
